The Small Business Development Training Program, SBD2018: Growth by Design will commence Thursday, September 6, 2018. If you are a certified or certifiable Minority, Woman, or Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (M/W/DBE) interested in advancing your company with enhanced knowledge of construction and project management, you are encouraged to apply for this program.

The 10-week training program includes topics such as pre-qualification and certification as a M/W/DBE company, contract administration, estimating and bidding, and scheduling, to name a few. The program was designed to assist local M/W/DBEs in becoming contract-ready for more than $3 billion in utility construction work, including Consent Decree sewer rehabilitation and replacement, and capital improvements under drinking water, storm-water and wastewater programs.

This training program is available primarily for M/W/DBEs specializing in: concrete construction, construction program/project management, excavating, landscaping, pipeline installation, post-construction clean-up, scheduling, sediment and erosion control, sewer construction, site work, traffic control and underground utilities.

For a nominal fee of $199, qualified applicants receive 10 modules of training valued at $1199. Training fee will cover the cost of materials and meals.

Qualified applicants emerge from training with an arsenal that includes:

  • Consent Decree and Capital Improvement Projects summary

  • 10 hour OSHA certification card

  • A review of M/W/DBE certification requirements

  • A review of pre-qualification requirements

  • A review of accounting practices and financial strategies

  • A review of construction industry best practices

  • Management skills for construction programs and construction projects

  • Estimating and bidding techniques

  • Proven marketing strategies

  • Access to a network of primes needing subs

  • Network of subs seeking partnerships
